Handmade India Desert Wedding: Nicole + Jordan – Part 1

India Desert Wedding

We are all in for quite a treat today because we get to jet off to the far-away Thar desert of India for a peek at Nicole + Jordan’s absolutely amazing DIY wedding! Upon second thought, a peek just wouldn’t be nearly enough, so we’ve decided to break up this celebration into a photo-filled two-part feature to really highlight all of the amazing scenery + decor. Trust us, in just a sec you’ll be so glad we did!

Nicole tells us, We always wanted something a bit exotic and with a lot of natural beauty. Once we decided on the Thar desert, a lot of the ideas came with the location. It was all DIY and the most wonderful thing about having the wedding in India was that you can find all the “exotic” décor for a very reasonable price because it’s so normal here. We are really glad that we went to Jaisalmer a week before to be able to hang out with our friends who traveled for many hours to get the desert. We do wish that we had more time with them cause time just seemed to go so, so fast.

A huge thanks to Danelle Bohane for sending this amazing wedding our way + biggest congrats to the newlyweds, Nicole + Jordan, on their beautiful, beautiful day!

India Portraits

We just had to share the sweet (short-version) story of how these two met! Nicole tells us, Our parents met each other in a hill station in India called Mussoorie and we were both just short of one years old. We then met again when we were in third grade, we went to a small school in New Delhi. I was Jordy’s first crush, but back then I was terrified of little boys, especially him. He was the class clown and I was the quiet teachers pet. We were in School together for 3 years. Then we were both homeschooled separately and I moved to Thailand for high school. We were never in contact with each other during that time at all. Then in 2011 I went with my family on a rafting trip in India and Jordy and his dad were on the same trip. It had been five years since we had seen each other. The first day I just observed Jordy making everyone laugh and being friends with everyone. We still hadn’t said hi to each other at this point. We were all sitting in a big group and he stopped and looked and me and said “do you ever talk?” I started laughing and then wouldn’t shut up the rest of the trip and that was the beginning of us.

It seems as though every where you turned there was an epic photo-op and Danelle Bohane certainly took advantage of the situation! Loving these portraits she captured the day before the wedding…

India Bride

Nicole wore an intricately beautiful wedding dress, handmade with love by 4 local artisans from fabric chosen by her sisters-in-law. We have to say, so much of the charm of this gorgeous wedding was that it incorporated so much of the community in its details.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Besides getting married to my best friend it was during the camel procession where I looked a head and saw all my favorite people in the world riding camels in the middle of no where and all I could think was: how did this ever happen?

The bridesmaids carried lanterns instead of bouquets to better fit the theme of the day and we love the uniqueness it added to the setting.
