Tips to Pack the Dance Floor

When our friend Michael – aka The Flashdance! – told us that time + time again couples ask him THE SAME QUESTION: “What can we do to make the danceparty as crazy as possible?” we knew we had to do something to address it! At GWS, our main mantra is that weddings should be fun, so we were stoked when Michael agreed to share his expert insight into that very Q, with seven stellar tips for packing the dance floor at your wedding to ensure your guests all have the best time possible!

Tips to Pack the Dance Floor

How to make your danceparty as crazy as possible:

Tip #1: Seat your craziest dancers as close to the dance floor as possible if the dinner area is the same as the dance area (and the older or less-likely-to-dance guests a bit further from the loud speakers) – that way the “dance party ambassadors” won’t need to travel too far to get moving and your older guests won’t be asking for the dinner music to be turned way down during dinner! (Toward the end of dinner we are increasing volume and tempo to start to raise the energy in the room.)

Tip #2: Try to make the dance floor as small of a space as possible – gotta get everyone close and comfortable!

Tip #3: Keep the bar and any other activities (photobooth, etc.) as close to the dance floor as possible – that way no one will need to wander too far from the party!

Tip #4: Get it as dark as possible at dancing time – things just get weirder when the lights go out (the good kind of weird).

Tip # 5: No interruptions once the dancing begins – we’ve noticed that if you stop the dancing for toasts, cake cuttings, first dances, parent dances, or any kind of announcements, people have a hard time getting back out there. It’s best to just let the party build and not try to stop it for any reason.
