Toon Town Engagement Photos

I absolutely love seeing how different couples use their engagement photos to really showcase them as a couple. So, with Sean + Kelly both being animators here in LA, they knew they wanted to incorporate that into their photos. Sean + Kelly actually fell in love at Disneyland (you can read his super sweet story about that here) – almost too perfect for these two lovebirds as Sean worked on movies such as Shrek and Madagascar, and was even nominated for an Annie Award (equivalent to an Oscar in the animation world) earlier this year!

They decided they wanted to do a vintage themed engagement session at Union Station here in LA, photographed in a way that they could later animate various characters into for their Save the Date Invitations. How fun + perfect for them! Kelly + Sean rented vintage costumes and each set-up required working closely with their photographers – the talented Callaway Gable duo – to allow them space to later draw in the characters. It kind of reminds me of the movie, Who framed Roger Rabbit?

Pretty amazing, right? Their wedding will be held at a castle on the East Coast – a perfect spot for a fairy tale wedding! :) Congrats to Sean + Kelly and thanks for letting me share your story. Can’t wait to see the wedding photos. :)

A New York City Wedding: Julie + Ed

Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate with your plans for an outdoor ceremony, but if you have a great backup plan, it’s not a big deal! And that is exactly what happened to Julie + Ed. Their wedding was scheduled to be in Central Park but due to rain, they had to go with their backup plan – a photo studio in the SoHo district, which ended up being so unique + just perfect! Their reception was held at The Gutter which is a super fun bowling alley/bar located in Brooklyn. The side room was transformed into an elegant candlelit dinner and after dinner the guests enjoyed dancing and bowling – sounds like a fun time to me! :) I love that the couple designed so many elements for their day. The groomsmen wore driver style caps as it is the groom, Ed’s staple piece in his wardrobe. Flowers were put together by Julie and the bridesmaids. The reception flowers and decor were arranged by Julie’s pal and wedding designer Steve Doss. Thanks to Aimee + Troy of Troy Grover Photographers for the gorgeous photos!

New York City Wedding

Vintage look for groomsmen

From Julie, “Our biggest priority in planning the wedding was that people have fun! We wanted to have a big party with all our favorite people, so we decided to rent out our favorite spot in Brooklyn, The Gutter (bowling alley).

Most memorable moment from your wedding day? The wedding speech video. There were several members in our wedding party who could not attend the wedding, so we asked all of our wedding party and parents to make a wedding “speech” video. An editor friend of ours took all the videos and edited them into a little movie that was shown during dinner. It took my breath away, it was so beautifully done.

Any advice for those planning right now? My advice is to do what you want to do, no matter how wacky it may sound to other people. I thought my parents were going to die when we told them we were getting hitched in a bowling alley called “The Gutter”, but in the end I think everyone was blown away at how much fun it was!

Congrats Julie + Ed and thanks for sharing your day with us!

Inspired by Light Bulbs

light bulbs hanging in a loft

How rad would those lightbulbs hanging above be for a ceremony backdrop?!! I love that with light you can easily change a so-so room into a gorgeous room. This post is to help inspire you with lightbulbs for your wedding day!

The chandeliers below with rope + lightbulbs were seen in this beautiful wedding I featured.

If you love lightbulbs and are planning to get married in New York City, I highly recommend checking out the Gramercy Park Hotel as your venue! Check out that awesome lightbulb ceiling!! Cocktail hour could take place in that room followed by dinner outside under string lights as seen in this wedding below photographed by KT Merry.

lightbulbs in birdcage

Or maybe lightbulbs are used in a totally different way! Love the lightbulbs in the birdcage, bulbs in wood + stone from Anzfer Farms and lightbulbs in a dome. There are even lots of cute DIYs out there including this heart lightbulb DIY, terrarium place cards DIY, and more terrarium light bulbs DIY.

lightbulbs as wedding favors

Looking for the vintage style light bulbs? I had a reader request on where to find these the cheapest. Well, the cheapest we found was at your local Lowe’s! $8 for a bulb (the hubby and I actually bought a few of these for a cool chandelier we built for our patio!). If there aren’t any Lowe’s near you, you can find them online here and here (although both of those are around $13/bulb).

Anyone planning to incorporate lights in a new and different way? Or just strings of lights? Lights will never go out of style! :)
